The Balfour-Browne Club

An international study group dedicated to aquatic Coleoptera research

A Legacy of Scientific Excellence

The Club was set up in 1976 and is named after Professor Frank Balfour-Browne, who pioneered field studies and biological recording in general, and did so much to promote the study of water beetles.

The Club functions as an international study group, with yearly meetings, and maintains joint stewardship of the recording scheme with ACCT. Members from across Europe, North America, and beyond contribute to our understanding of aquatic Coleoptera ecology.

Professor Balfour-Browne's pioneering work in the early-to-mid 20th century laid the foundation for modern water beetle research. His systematic approach to field studies and taxonomic work continues to influence researchers today.
